- 3 cups of wheat flour
- 150 g butter
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 350 g cream cheese
- 1 pack of baking powder (15 g)
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 3 eggs
- 100 g cranberries
- 100 g dried cherries
- 100 g apricots
- 100g almonds
- 100 g hazelnuts
- 100 g candied orange peel
- 200 g marzipan mass
Ingredients for a snow blanket
- 100 g butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
Preparation of the dough
Sift flour into a large bowl, add baking powder and mix well. Then add icing sugar, vanilla extract , cheese, soft butter and eggs. Knead the dough by hand or with a planetary mixer until the ingredients are well combined. The dough will be heavy and sticky - that's how it should be.
Add dried fruit, you can chop it or add it whole. Mix well so that it is covered with the dough.
Cut the marzipan into 4 long pieces and shape into rolls.
Place the dough on a floured pastry board. The ingredients listed will make one very large strudel or two smaller ones. Use your hands to form a flat 2 cm thick dough, place the prepared rolls of marzipan mass in the middle. Fold both sides and form the strudel. Give it an elongated shape, the dough will rise a lot to the sides during baking.
Place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake for 50-60 minutes at 160 C, top and bottom heating. Check with a toothpick to see if they are done.
Preparing a snow blanket
Melt butter in a saucepan. Prepare powdered sugar and a small sieve and a kitchen brush.
Brush the strudel with butter, then sprinkle generously with powdered sugar using a sieve. Repeat until all ingredients are used up. The final layer is powdered sugar.
