Salad ingredients

  1. 600 g herring in oil
  2. 3 apples
  3. 2 small onions
  4. 3 tablespoons of sour cream
  5. 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  6. lemon
  7. red pepper
  8. salt

How to make herring in cream?

  1. Peel and slice a mild onion into thin strips, trying to keep the thickness even so that all the pieces marinate evenly. Transfer the sliced onion to a bowl, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, which will help soften the onion structure and soften its sharpness. Then sprinkle everything with freshly squeezed juice from half a lemon, which will not only give it a slightly sour taste, but will also make the onion more delicate and aromatic.

  2. Mix everything thoroughly so that the lemon juice and salt evenly cover each piece of onion. Set the bowl aside for about 20 minutes so that the onion can marinate and infuse, gaining a unique flavor and aroma. After this time, the onion will be ready to use. Drain off excess marinade before adding to the dish to maintain a balance of flavors.

  3. Choose ripe but not too soft apples, preferably with a slightly sour taste, which will perfectly balance the salty taste of the herring. Wash the apples thoroughly, peel them and remove the cores, then cut into even cubes. Try to make the pieces not too large, this will give the salad a uniform texture and the flavors will blend well.

  4. The herring is also cut into cubes of similar size to the apples (set aside one fillet for decoration). It is important to keep the pieces of both ingredients similar in size, which will ensure an aesthetic appearance and pleasure when eating - each bite will be perfectly balanced in terms of taste and consistency.

  5. Place all the chopped ingredients in a large bowl. Add mayonnaise, which will give the salad a creamy consistency, and sour cream, which will introduce a delicate, slightly sour accent. Mix everything so that all the ingredients are evenly covered with the sauce. Mix gently so as not to crush the pieces, which will help maintain the attractive appearance and texture of the salad. Season the salad with coarsely ground red pepper, which will give it a characteristic, slightly spicy flavor and a beautiful, visual accent.

  6. Transfer the finished salad to the serving dish. Garnish the top with a herring fillet and sprinkle with an additional portion of red pepper, which will emphasize its distinctive character. Put the dish in the refrigerator for at least an hour, so that the flavors can infuse and the ingredients can combine well. Thanks to this, the salad will gain depth of flavor and will be perfect for serving on the table.
