Ingredients

  1. ½ small white cabbage
  2. ¼ small red cabbage
  3. 1 large carrot
  4. 1 medium onion
  5. 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  6. Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the white and red cabbage thoroughly, then chop into thin strips. You can use a sharp knife, a kitchen mandolin or a food processor. The base of the salad is white cabbage, red cabbage adds intense color and a slightly sweet taste to the salad.

  2. Peel and grate the carrot on a coarse grater. It will add a delicate sweetness and juiciness, and will also enrich the salad with an intense orange color.

  3. Peel the onion and chop it very finely. The onion will add a slight spiciness and distinct flavor.

  4. Place the shredded cabbage, grated carrots and chopped onion in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, then mix thoroughly with your hands or a wooden spoon to distribute the spices evenly. Set the bowl of vegetables aside for 15 minutes to allow the cabbage and other ingredients to soften. During this time, the cabbage will release its juice, which will give the salad a more uniform structure and the flavors will combine well.

  5. After the time has passed, add 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise to the salad and mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly covered with the sauce. You can adjust the amount of mayonnaise to your own preferences, if you want the salad to be more creamy, you can add a little more.

  6. The salad tastes best after chilling in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, which allows the flavours to blend and the cabbage to gain the perfect consistency.

  7. Coleslaw is a versatile addition that goes great with many dishes. It is irreplaceable for grilled dishes, especially juicy steaks, pork neck, chicken or grilled fish. It also goes perfectly with burgers, hot dogs and fries, adding freshness and crunch. It can also be served as an addition to dinner, e.g. with pork chops, roasts or potato dishes.
